Welcome
This website has been developed as a resource to support the teaching of a unit on British Colonisation of Australia. It has been specifically designed to be relevant to a year 4 class in Sydney, New South Wales.
This unit of work derives from the New South Wales Board of Studies Human Societies and Its Environments Syllabus for Stage 2 (Years 3-4). It is also compatible with the Australian Curriculum History K-10 Draft Syllabus Version 2 unit First Contacts, which is expected to supersede the New South Wales Syllabus in 2014.
Understanding the history of our nation and the differing perspectives of that history is an important part of being a 21st Century Australian citizen. The topic of the early British migration also provides an interesting contrast with migration of other groups to Australia today.
The Teaching and Learning Overview Plan presented on this site adopts plural pedagogies of quality teaching, inquiry learning, constructivism and critical pedagogies.
